Page 4 The Lion

The Lion

I had a dream that I was in a large old barn. The barn seemed extensive with a number of rooms. There were a few other people in the barn with me. We were all looking around the various rooms. At one point I saw something truly frightening: A full grown male lion was loose and roaming in the barn with us! The size of him was terrifying and the sudden fear we had upon seeing him was instantaneous and palpable from that moment onward.  We immediately tried to keep away from him and find way to escape before he saw us.
  He was huge and fearsome and only a room away at any moment. It was a race sometimes to keep out of his sight and other times a waiting game to keep away from him. He was quickly aware of our presence yet I did not detect that he hd seen us yet. But he was increasingly coming for us. If we left the barn, we would then be out in the open country where it would be extremely dangerous should he get out.
  We found a door that led out but in fact it led into a 2 story house. We went upstairs and went from room to room looking for some asylum. The house had seen better times and was in decay. The barn too. For a moment it seemed that we had lost him long enough to go downstairs and get out. But as we got downstairs, and thinking the coast was momentarily clear, we were about to make a break for it out the door. Then, taking a last look around we saw a horrifying sight - There he was in the downstairs back hall directly opposite us and a moment later he saw us! He must have weighed 550 lbs and I could see the way his big meaty feet padded on the floor. His fearsome head was huge and we could see his big lion eyes looking directly at ours. There was nothing between us and him. We were already at the door and there was no other choice but to run for it. Yet if we did, he would easily run us down out in the open. Someone had to barricade the door as the rest ran across the open ground to the woods about a hundred yards away where they could hide and had a chance to disappear.
  Three of us shut the door and barricaded it from the outside while the others ran. But the last thing I saw as we shut the door, was the huge lion bounding towards us. It leaped upwards hitting the door very forcibly. The impact was tremendous. We were very shaken and the door was greatly damaged. We managed to withstand the blow but it was frightening. We were relieved that we were able to withstand its force but it took all our strength.
  I remember looking back to see if the people who had fled had made it to the woods but most were only partway there. For a moment we hoped he would give up having failed. The door would no longer latch as it was too damaged. We tried to find a way to keep it from failing long enough for us to get away ourselves.
  At one point I looked in at him and he was indecisive and momentarily confused as to where else to try, but then turning back towards the door, he redoubled his efforts on it again. My two friends ran and promised to get help while I held the door for them. But when the lion hit the door again, it was almost beyond my strength to hold the door shut after this second thrust. This time I felt the door nearly shatter and give way and I knew that now it was weakened to little more than the strength of cardboard. I looked back and saw that all but my two friends had made it to the woods and they also were almost there but looked back with hope and concern for me. I knew that if he hit that door one more time, it would be over. The door was too hopelessly flimsy now. I knew the consequences if he tried again. At this point in dire straits and little more than cardboard between me and that beast, and him ready to lunge again, I suddenly awoke.

That the Lion in my dream was the Antichrist I easily concluded because I knew that the Antichrist and his forces are referred to in lion terms in numerous places throughout scriptures. This I also concluded partly because I could sense that it was going to kill anyone it got its claws into, (especially me who was thwarting him) and was a great danger to all. And partly because we were able to hold it back behind a door while others fled. This I know was certainly not  the Lion of the Tribe of Judah who is more than able to get past anyone when He needs to come. Nor is He coming to kill all indiscriminately.  But about the antichirst,
Psalm 17 is one of many examples:

8 Keep me as the apple of your eye;
hide me in the shadow of your wings
9 from the wicked who are out to destroy me,
from my mortal enemies who surround me.
10 They close up their callous hearts,
and their mouths speak with arrogance.
11 They have tracked me down, they now surround me,
with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.
12 They are like a lion hungry for prey,
like a fierce lion crouching in cover.

Psalm 57:2-4 says:
I cry out to God Most High,
to God, who vindicates me.
3He sends from heaven and saves me,
rebuking those who hotly pursue me—
God sends forth his love and his faithfulness.
4I am in the midst of lions;
I am forced to dwell among ravenous beasts—
men whose teeth are spears and arrows,
whose tongues are sharp swords.

Another example is Jeremiah 2:13-15:
“My people have committed two sins:
They have forsaken me,
the spring of living water,
and have dug their own cisterns,
broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
14Is Israel a servant, a slave by birth?
Why then has he become plunder?
15Lions have roared;
they have growled at him.
They have laid waste his land;
his towns are burned and deserted

  I feel that in the dream I was those believers -perhaps a remnant -who make an effort while all else run, though I was very inadequate to the daunting task.
Those who fled were the more lifeless church- people who when trouble comes melt away.
  Those friends who assisted but then fled to get help too late and looked on with concern from a distance are Christians who bravely make an effort but they were perhaps those lesser souls the Lord ordains to witness disaster on their watch to chasten them or to build them into something more determined for the coming times. Yet I felt a bond with those braver souls.
  That he tried twice forcefully on that door weakening it but failing to break out -each time weakening it further still, tells me that the the time is very close. But that the horribly weakened door and the ones barricading it are doomed when that third try comes was certain to me. So certain, that I immediately awoke. I was in the dream those believers who were to be first attacked and die by antichrist forces, but the fact is that I awoke before this.
That the house had seen better days was symbolic of our house- this nation. That our barn had seen better days was symbolic of our past, working the land and gathering its wealth. Both were neglected and nearing abandonment.

  Jesus, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords is coming again,- soon. But mark this: The tribulation is coming sooner. And when He does come He will rescue those who are His and they will destroy their enemies. Even the dead in Christ will rise and the resulting Army of the Lord will be like "never was before on the face of the earth or ever will be again" so great will be their power. But before this, a time of trial- a terrible tribulation is coming - the time of Sword, Famine, and Plague in which all the nations of the earth will be forced to worship the beast- all whose names have not been written in the Lamb's book of life. A time which will one fourth of all  mankind.

Let my eyes overflow with tears
 night and day without ceasing:
for the virgin Daughter, my people,
 has suffered a grieveous wound,
a crushing blow.
 If I go into the country,
I see those slain by the sword;
 if I go into the city,
I see the ravages of famine.
 Both prophet and priest
have gone to a land they know not.

     Jeremiah 14:20

Yet there are all those today who say the church will not see the tribulation- No sword, no famine, no plague.

"Then the Lord said to me , 'The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or
appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries and the delusions of their own minds. "Therefore this is what the Lord says about the prophets who are prophesying in my name: I did not send them yet they are saying 'No sword or famine will touch this land', Those same prophets will perish by the the sword and famine." Jeremiah 14:14-15

In Psalm 10 there is a type of antichrist described :
In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak,
who are caught in the schemes he devises.
3 He boasts about the cravings of his heart;
he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord.
4 In his pride the wicked man does not seek him;
in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
5 His ways are always prosperous;
your laws are rejected by
him;
he sneers at all his enemies.
6 He says to himself, “Nothing will ever shake me.”
He swears, “No one will ever do me harm.”
7 His mouth is full of lies and threats;
trouble and evil are under his tongue.
8 He lies in wait near the villages;
from ambush he murders the innocent.
His eyes watch in secret for his victims;
9 like a lion in cover he lies in wait.
He lies in wait to catch the helpless;
he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.
10 His victims are crushed, they collapse;
they fall under his strength.
11 He says to himself, “God will never notice;
he covers his face and never sees.”

By the way, here's an odd observation- Notice that it goes on to say:

But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted;
you consider their grief and take it in hand.
The victims commit themselves to you;
you are the helper of the fatherless.
15 Break the arm of the wicked man;
call the evildoer to account for his wickedness
that would not otherwise be found out.

It suggests that he will suffer a broken or damaged arm. I saw this same thing in an Antichrist description in Zecharia 11:17. It says:

15 Then the Lord said to me, “Take again the equipment of a foolish shepherd. 16 For I am going to raise up a shepherd over the land who will not care for the lost, or seek the young, or heal the injured, or feed the healthy, but will eat the meat of the choice sheep, tearing off their hooves.
17 “Woe to the worthless shepherd,
who deserts the flock!
May the sword strike his arm and his right eye!
May his arm be completely withered,
his right eye totally blinded!”

Again the damaged arm. This is an unusual clue to us all in these events.
Note that just before this revelation in Zecharia 11 of the "raising up of a foolish shepherd" it says:

Listen to the wail of the shepherds;
their rich pastures are destroyed!
Listen to the roar of the lions;
the lush thicket of the Jordan is ruined!
This is what the Lord my God says: “Shepherd the flock marked for slaughter.   Their buyers slaughter them and go unpunished. Those who sell them say, ‘Praise the Lord, I am rich!’ Their own shepherds do not spare them.  For I will no longer have pity on the people of the land,” declares the Lord.
(verses 3-6)

Again it speaks of lions. Note also that it is the Lord who brings forth the antichrist  as shown in verse 16: "For I am going to raise up a shepherd over the land who will not care for the lost..."

In Psalm 22, it prophecys Jesus' experience at the crucifixion, one of many places in the Bible where the enemies of the Lord (and I believe ultimately the Antichrist) are described as Assyrian from Bashan and also referred to as Lions.

Many bulls surround me;
strong bulls of Bashan encircle me.
13 Roaring lions that tear their prey
open their mouths wide against me.
14 I am poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint.
My heart has turned to wax;
it has melted within me.
15 My mouth is dried up like a potsherd,
and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;
you lay me in the dust of death.
16 Dogs surround me,
a pack of villains encircles me;
they pierce my hands and my feet.
17 All my bones are on display;
people stare and gloat over me.
18 They divide my clothes among them
and cast lots for my garment.
But you, Lord, do not be far from me.
You are my strength; come quickly to help me.
20 Deliver me from the sword,
my precious life from the power of the dogs.
21 Rescue me from the mouth of the lions;
save me from the horns of the wild oxen.

Bashan is modern day Syria- specifically the Golan heights. Jesus's killers may have been part of the Roman Empire but were Roman in name only. The same Roman legions stationed in Israel who put him to death were those who destroyed Jerusalem in 70 A.D.
The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city [Jerusalem] and the sanctuary [the Jewish Temple]. ~ Daniel 9:26
This is the verse upon which so much of the church hangs their end times prophecy hat. This verse says that the Antichrist (the ruler who will come) will come from the people who destroy Jerusalem and the Jewish Temple. Centuries after this verse of Daniel was written, Rome seemed to fulfilled it. The Roman Army destroyed Jerusalem and the Jewish Temple. Therefore, common church wisdom holds that the Antichrist will come from Rome, and be a European.
 But the scope of which the Roman Empire conquered new lands was beyond their ability to occupy those lands with Italian Roman soldiers. There were not enough men in Rome to supply even half the Roman Army. Therefore, the empire’s Roman Army legions ethnically was comprised of locals. In Psalm 22:12, it foretells that the Roman legion stationed in Jerusalem crucifying Jesus were men from Bashan (Syria).
Less than forty years after the Crucifixion, Roman legions stationed in Syria (comprised of Syrian provincials) destroyed Jerusalem and the Jewish Temple. What is remarkable is that the Jewish Temple was a trophy of the Roman Empire, and Rome had no intention of destroying it! In fact, the Roman commander tried desperately to stop the Syrian troops from burning the Temple!
This remarkable eyewitness account to the event written by Josephus in his book Wars of the Jews describes this truth: (my comments in italics)

"And now a certain person came running to Titus [the Roman commander, an ethnic Italian, not an Arab], and told him of this fire, as he was resting himself in his tent after the last battle; whereupon he rose up in great haste, and, as he was, ran to the holy house, in order to have a stop put to the fire [The Italian commander tries to stop the fire since the Jewish Temple was a trophy of the Roman Empire.]; Then did Caesar, both by calling to the soldiers that were fighting, with a loud voice, and by giving a signal to them with his right hand, order them to quench the fire. And now, since Caesar was in no way able to restrain the enthusiastic fury of the soldiers, and the fire proceeded on more and more…Titus supposing… that the house [Jewish Temple] itself might yet be saved… came in haste… to persuade the soldiers to quench the fire ..yet were their passions [hatred of the Jews] too hard for the regards they had for Caesar [fear of their commander] and the dread they had of him who forbade them, as was their hatred of the Jews, and a certain vehement inclination to fight them…[their hatred of the Jews was beyond their fear of disobeying a direct order from Caesar] And thus was the holy house burnt down, without Caesar’s approbation.
Thus the famous historian Josephus, an eyewitness, tells us that the Temple was burnt down against the frantic orders of the Italian Roman commander. Quite different than we are taught by most American Bible teachers.
So,"the people of the ruler who will come (who)will destroy the city and the sanctuary" of Daniel 9:26 are not the Italians, but were men from Bashan, today the Golan Heights and those places.

Many times Assyrians or our enemies are referred to as Lions in scripture. Despite many who think he will be a European, the Book of Nahum plainly states where the antichrist comes from:

From you, Nineveh, has one come forth
who plots evil against the Lord.
and devises wicked schemes.
(Nahum 1:11)

Regarding Ninevah where the antichrist comes from, Nahum 2:11-13 describes their downfall:

Where now is the lions’ den,
the place where they fed their young,
where the lion and lioness went,
and the cubs, with nothing to fear?
12The lion killed enough for his cubs
and strangled the prey for his mate,
filling his lairs with the kill
and his dens with the prey.
13“I am against you,”
declares the Lord Almighty.
“I will burn up your chariots in smoke,
and the sword will devour your young lions.
I will leave you no prey on the earth.
The voices of your messengers
will no longer be heard.”

Again, the clear reference to antichrist forces as lions. It should be mentioned that Ninevah is today the eastern outskirts of Mosul, the 2nd largest city in Iraq, and the headquarters of the ISIS state. Even more chilling is that they are using children in videos to kill prisoners- children they call 'the Lion's cubs'. It was also the ancient capital of the Assyrian empire, and will again a capital of antichrist forces, if not already.

And similarly for Babylon it says in Jeremiah 51:38-40

Her people all roar like young lions,
they growl like lion cubs.
39But while they are aroused,
I will set out a feast for them
and make them drunk,
so that they shout with laughter—
then sleep forever and not awake,”
declares the Lord.
40“I will bring them down
like lambs to the slaughter,
like rams and goats.

Babylon was the next empire which encompassed the old territory of the Assyrians and the same peoples in those same lands.

Lastly, it says in Psalm 35 about the prayer of the righteous:

They repay me evil for good
and leave me like one bereaved.
13
Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth
and humbled myself with fasting.
When my prayers returned to me unanswered,
14 I went about mourning
as though for my friend or brother.
I bowed my head in grief
as though weeping for my mother.
15 But when I stumbled, they gathered in glee;
assailants gathered against me without my knowledge.
They slandered me without ceasing.
16 Like the ungodly they maliciously mocked;
they gnashed their teeth at me.
17 How long, Lord, will you look on?
Rescue me from their ravages,
my precious life from these lions.
18 I will give you thanks in the great assembly;
among the throngs I will praise you.
19 Do not let those gloat over me
who are my enemies without cause;
do not let those who hate me without reason
maliciously wink the eye.
20 They do not speak peaceably,
but devise false accusations
against those who live quietly in the land.
21 They sneer at me and say, “Aha! Aha!
With our own eyes we have seen it.”

There are dark times for Christians ahead from violent men referred to as Lions and those who put their hope in the Lord must do so fully now-- NOW is the time. Time is running out. This is the message.
