About Prophetic Dreams

Most people think that prophetic dreams are only something that occurred long ago in the Bible and are not given by the Lord today. But have a look at Joel 2:28-31 as quoted in the book of Acts 2:17

In the last days I will pour out my spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophecy,
your young men will see visions
your old men will dream dreams.
Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my spirit in those days
and they will prophecy.
I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the
great and glorious day of the Lord.
And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Many say that those events were only for the time of the book of Acts until the Bible was completed- though the ending of the gifts of the spirit are not prophecied in this way at all.
Instead look at what the prophecy itself says-- it plainly states the end of the fulfillment:

The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the great and glorious day of the Lord.

That my friends is when prophecy ends, not 1900 years ago. Want more proof? It further confirms this in 1 Corinthians 13:8 about when we shall see Jesus face to face:

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease: where there are tongues they will be stilled - where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
(Keep reading--it's about to tell you when they will cease.) For we know in part and prophecy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. (If you think he means the completing of the Bible- keep reading) When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror: then we shall see face to face. Now, I know in part. Then, I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And so there you have it friends. These shall pass away when we see the Lord face to face. And that is surely a future event.  And just for the icing on the cake, Paul goes on to say:

Follow the way of love and eagerly desire the gifts of the Spirit especially prophecy.

Add to this the prophecy:  I have been a farmer from my youth and if any one prophecies his own parents will stab him.

Are dreams included in prophecy? Nebuchadnezzar had two prophetic dreams that Daniel knew the interpretation and their meanings were profound prophecies. The colossus of gold, silver, bronze, steel, and clay were vast empires to come. The covenant with Abraham was given to Abraham in a dream. It was reconfirmed to Jacob, in a dream. Joseph dreamed a dream of his brothers and father bowing to him. It came true in a profound way. He interpreted correctly true prophetic dreams of prisoners in the Egyptian prison with him. He correctly interpreted prophetic dreams of Pharoah which both showed a terrible 7 year drought and famine.  Solomon's wisdom? Given in a dream. Zacharia's vision of Joshua (Jeshua) the high priest symbolic of one to come and a future restoration of Jerusalem came in a dream (read ch 1:8 and  ch 4:1 and decide for yourself). Joseph was told that Mary was pregnant by the Holy Spirit in a dream. He was warned to take the family to Egypt in dream. He was told it was safe to return to Israel in a dream. These and others.
Here is what Job 33:13-18 says regarding the Lord's purposes for dreams:

Why do you complain to Him
that He responds to no one's words?
For the Lord does speak- now one way,
now another-
though no one percieves it.
In a dream, in a vision in the night,
when deep sleep falls on people
as they slumber in their beds,
He may speak in their ears
and terrify them with warnings,
to turn them from wrongdoing
and keep them from pride,
to preserve them from the pit,
their lives from persishing by the sword.
